Room

Visual Art by Caitlin Adams

This was an art project I completed in high school, with the theme ‘room’. The concept was to use our own bedroom as the subject matter in the artwork, exploring how a room can be both a physical space and an emotional environment. Rather than presenting it as only a setting, I aimed to examine how our spaces can reflect our identity, memories, and psychological state.

Throughout the work, I experimented with mixed medias, photography, and editing softwares in order to investigate how personal rooms can become extensions of those that inhabit them. The project was focused on atmosphere, layout, and detail.

It encouraged me to think about space in a cinematic way, particularly in relation to production and set design. I was able to begin to understand how environments can communicate story, mood, and character, just like dialogue or performance can.

The project overall reflects my interest in visual storytelling, and how interior spaces can be used to convey emotion within a film.
